Mental Health America of Greater Houston, a Texas nonprofit corporation (“we,” “our,” or “us”), is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) governs how we treat the personal information that we collect and receive from you in connection with your use of the Care Connect Text Messaging Service (“Service”), which we make available to you through a third-party service provider.

By using this Service, you acknowledge that you accept the practices and policies outlined in the Policy, and you consent to the collection, use, and sharing of your information as described in this Policy. If you are accessing the Service on behalf of another person (such as a minor), you confirm that you have the authority to accept this Policy on that person’s behalf.

  1. What Information is Collected About You

Through the use of the Service,  we will receive the following information from our third party service provider: your mobile phone number when you send a text message to us; and the text of messages that you send to us, including your name, user name, and any other personal information you include in the text of your message.

We use personal information to:

  • Process and respond to your inquiries
  • Improve the Service
  • Provide anonymous reporting for internal and external clients and partners
  • If necessary, contact you with important announcements or messages
  1. How we disclose your information

We may disclose your information under the following circumstances:

  • With behavioral health professionalswith whom you choose to communicate (Behavioral health encompasses both mental health and substance use care.)
  • With third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics), each of which signs a binding confidentiality agreement that protects your information
  • As required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, legal process, or regulatory obligation
  • To prevent harm, in cases of potential threats to safety or as required under mandatory reporting laws

We will never share text message consent, or any personal information therein, with third parties or affiliates.

  1. Security

We take appropriate security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, alteration, disclosure, loss, or destruction, including ensuring that our third-party service providers protect the security of your personal information.

However, we cannot guarantee that unauthorized personnel will not gain access to your personal information despite our efforts. In using the Service, your information will travel through third-party infrastructures which are not under our control (such as a third-party Text Messaging delivery platform or your carrier network).

By using our Service, you acknowledge that any information you share with us is shared at your own risk.

  1. Children Under 18

Access to and use of our Service is not intended for children under 18. If you are under 18, please do not use our Service or share any personal information with us. By using our Service, you confirm that you are over 18. If we learn that we have received personal information from someone under 18 without verified parental consent, we will use that information only to notify them (or their parent or guardian) that they are not allowed to use the Service, and we will delete the information.

If you are a parent or guardian using the Service on behalf of your child, any information you provide will be treated as personal information covered under this Policy. If you are using the Service on behalf of or for someone else, regardless of age, you agree that we may contact you with service-related or legally required notices, and that you will pass those communications on to the person for whom or on whose behalf you’re using the Service.

We may update this Policy from time to time to conform to new laws and regulations or changes in business standards. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
