Pulitzer Prize Winner Shows the Importance of Veterans Treatment Courts
C.J. Chivers of the New York Times won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize in Feature Writing for his article The Fighter. Through an artful accumulation of fact and detail, Chivers shows that a Marine’s postwar descent into violence reflected neither the actions of a simple criminal nor a stereotypical case of PTSD, and is a reminder of the importance of the work of Veterans Treatment Courts and other programs addressing the mental health needs of veterans.
