Information Technology and Database Manager

Manage IT, servers, office equipment, Raisers Edge Database, generate mailing lists, reports and gift acknowledgement, conduct research and maintain the integrity of the data.  Oversee acquisition and maintenance of equipment, including securing outside professional services, maintenance agreements, acquiring or upgrading equipment and software and hardware, managing conversions, telephone systems, website hosting, etc. Provide technical support for www.mhahouston.org.   

Required: Proficiency in Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge software and Crystal Reports, Microsoft Office products, Exchange Servers, Backup Exec, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, complete tasks, and respond to deadlines.   

Desired:  Experience with website content management systems, TSQL, knowledge of IRis Database.

Mental Health Public Policy Fellow

Mental Health America of Greater Houston (MHA) has been awarded a grant for a Mental Health Policy Fellow by the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health. The Fellow will be responsible for assisting MHA’s Director of Public Policy and Government Relations with the development and implementation of MHA Houston’s overall public policy agenda, which includes both legislative and community advocacy work. Funding for the position is guaranteed for one year,
beginning on September 1, 2010, with the possibility of a year-long extension after the initial fellowship ends.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited four year college or university
  • Graduation within past 18 months from law, social work, public policy, or other related graduate program (requirement of grant)
  • Excellent writing, verbal communication, organizational, and research skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively with community organizations and coalitions
  • Ability to work effectively with local, state, and federal offices/agencies as well as public/elected officials
  • Ability to commit to duration of the fellowship (one calendar year)
  • Familiarity or experience working with local non-profits, social service agencies, government entities/offices, public/elected officials and their staffs, and other community resources preferred
  • Familiarity with mental health policy/topics preferred

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Researching and monitoring mental health policy issues at the local, state, and federal levels, with special emphasis on the 82nd Texas Legislative Session
  • Producing written materials including memoranda, draft legislation, testimony, fact sheets, and status reports on mental health legislation and policy issues
  • Working with MHA’s Public Policy Committee and Board of Directors
  • Working with public/elected officials and their staffs on mental health legislation and policy issues
  • Working with community partners, stakeholders, and coalitions on mental health legislation and policy issues
  • Working on development and implementation of grassroots community mental health advocacy projects
  • Other duties as needed
Salary:

$45,000 for the year plus benefits, including medical and dental (non-negotiable)
